Operations

Mining Blocks

Govt. of Odisha  has recommended to Ministry of Mines, Govt of India informing the decision to reserve the Guali Iron Ore Block, over 365.026 hects of R P Sao in Guali Keonjhar district, under  section 17A(2) of MMDR Act, in favour of M/s OMECL. 

Also, vide letter no 8589/SM, Bhubaneswar, dtd 06/11/2019 Govt of Odisha has recommended to Ministry of Mines, Govt of India, informing the decision to reserve the Sukinda Chromite Mining Lease, over 406 hects of M/s Tata Steel in the district of Jajpur, under  section 17A(2) of MMDR Act, in favour of M/s OMECL.

Exploration Blocks

Ministry of Mines, Government of India has notified the Odisha Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (OMECL) for undertaking prospecting operations in pursuance of the second proviso to sub-section (1) of Section 4 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 vide its notification No-GSR389(E), dated 23.04.2018.And whereas the State Government have been pleased to assign 8(eight) blocks each of bauxite and iron ore to OMECL for exploration.

Khandadhar Iron

Khandadhar Iron blocks consists of seven (7) sub-blocks – A, B, C, D, E, F & G located in Khandadhar of Sundargarh district, Odisha. The total area for G4 level (UNFC) exploration covers an area of 50.91 Sq.km. Sub-Block A and Sub-Block C contains G2 area of around 7 Sq km. A detailed geological mapping at 1:4000 scale has been completed and drill targets have been identified. Total 215 samples were collected from Khandadhar Iron blocks. A core drilling programme of 7,180 m with sampling and assaying have been scheduled for Khandadhar Iron Blocks.The drilling shall start once forest clearance is obtained

Thakurani Iron

Thakurani Iron block located at Keonjhar covers an area of1.21 Sq km. The geological mapping (1:4000) has been completed. A total of 35 surfacial samples have been collected for geochemical analysis. The drilling shall start once forest clearance is obtained.

East Coast Bauxite

The Bauxite blocks assigned to OMECL forms the part of East Coast Bauxite (ECB) Belt. The blocks are Keluamali, Kishanmali & Lingapadarin in Kalahandi district, Majhingamali & Nunapaimali in Rayagada district and Karnapodikonda, Chintamgundi &Tarhapani (w), in Koraput district. Detailed geological mapping and surface sampling for Keluamali and Nunapaimali block have been completed. 

Forest clearances applications for core drilling of 5 of the bauxite blocks are under process. An envisaged core drilling programme consists of 10,060 m has been planned for the 5 bauxite blocks.
